SQUARE
MOTIFS
Other
quadrangles
In time, patterns travel between articles, between works of art of one function
and ones of another. According to Edvardas Gudavičius, the inheritance of the sign's base and not of the whole sign is most characteristic
of craftsmen.* Alė Počiulpaitė wrote that in the contemporary artwork of
the folk sculptor Lionginas Šepkus connections with folk textile patterns may be found. Everyone renders the same patterns in a new
way.* That means that traveling patterns always acquire exceptional
features.
Some patterns were adapted for dim fabrics according to the example of other
textiles; other patterns were interpreted, created. Many
patterns are common to all of Lithuania, only their names and perception differ a little. It is astonishing that recreated forms of quadrangle
motifs are very simple.
