PATTERN

Pattern and motif

We believe that only a thorough analysis of ornamentation can provide evidence of the changes in ethnic art. In the cultural context, pattern and color symbolics maintain various links with the deepest cultural layers: the tempo of social life, the world outlook, cosmic images, and economic and political development. Following a traditional historical approach to the subject, the author carried out her analysis of textiles as part of material and emotional ethnic art, laying a stress on aspects of culture formation, perception and national identity. In the work, textiles are looked upon as a phenomenon of rural culture and art, and are analysed in respect of the history of Lithuania.
