Brown leather, wood, brass binders. Both hardcovers are decorated with roulette, displaying conventional floral patterns, knight’s portraits and the motto: iustitae, fortis, fides. Plate imprints in the mirrors. |

Initials of chants' melodies have lombards in red and blue; verses of responsories and antiphons (singing texts) have black capital letters with filigree penwork (usually women’s portraits, rabbits and cats); hymn strophes start with smaller lombards. The text is written in Hybrida script. |

Each section of the manuscript opens with a multi-coloured initial, mostly showing flowers, berries or figures of birds. Fol. 2r has the initial of letter “a” with the coat-of-arms of the Van Zwieten family: a shield with three fiddles. |

3. History
|
Earlier the manuscript belonged to Vilnius Public Library. It was brought to Moscow from Vilnius in 1915. In 1946-1952 it was brought to Manuscript Department from USSR National V. I. Lenin Library in Moscow together with other manuscripts that belonged to the collection. |
