INFORMATION FOR THE VISITORS OF THE WEBSITE

 

PRESENTATION OF A MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT

Every aspect of a musical manuscript is presented on a separate page. It contains an archival description of the item, a short description of the document prepared by a musicologist, images of separate pages of the document, cover pages, sound and video recordings. The latter can be accessed using icons on the left side of the description.

ARCHIVAL DESCRIPTION OF A MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT

  

Title is the original title of the work, recorded in the document. If this is not available, the title is formulated according to the genre, place of creation etc.

Identification includes document signature (number of the collection and number of the preserved document), institution preserving the document, preserver and the state.

Description includes the name of the author, document language and place of creation.

Physical description includes the information about the form of the document (book, page etc.); document size (in centimetres); material from which the item was made; description of binding, imprinted decorations, records, ex-libris, if any; the number of pages and the originality of the pagination follow. Measures of the pages and of the text are indicated in centimetres. The script of the work and the name of the scribe of the manuscript are given. If available, the record, certifying this, is given in the original language in quotation marks and the page of the record is indicated. Watermarks identify the marks found on the paper; their identification in the scientific literature given. The decoration includes the description of pictures, initials and other. Titles of the pictures appearing in the document are given in the original language in bold, and the translation is given in angle brackets. Original records are given in quotation marks. General physical condition of the document is described.

Additional information contains a short annotation of the document and/or pages of which digital images are available below. If known, the name of the author and the title of the piece (or of its part) are indicated. The title is written in bold. Most often it is the first line of the text of the musical composition. If there is no title, the formulated text is given in angle brackets. Provenance contains all available information about ownership of the document. Original text is given in quotation marks, implied text or translations are given in angle brackets. History contains available information on the history of the writing of the document, the way how it reached the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The information of the discography, publications and bibliography of the musical composition is given in the end. And once again the notation used in the work is indicated.
